Job Summary

Student Teacher Assistants work with professional teaching staff to complete day to day tasks in a preschool classroom of children ages 3-5. Assistants will be interacting with and guiding children in the classroom. Students will also be assisting with the set up and clean up classroom activities, meal preparation, laundry, light cleaning duties, and general custodial care needs of children. Student assistants will be expected to be active with children both indoors and outdoors, year round.

Pay Rate

$14.00/hour

Required Qualifications

- Must be an active ISU student.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Skilled at working with children

Within 90 days of hire:
- Must have a Level 1 ECE Credential through Gateways to Opportunity.
- Must hold an active CPR & First Aid certification by either the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. All CPR & First Aid certification must be completed in person (no online certifications will qualify).

Before beginning employment, students will be required to submit the following:
- Three written character references
- Clearance on a criminal background check
- A medical record verifying good health (including a negative TB test, and immunizations for Tdap & 2 doses of MMR)

Preferred Qualifications

Employment is open to any major, but majors relating to Child Development, Social Work or Early Childhood Education are preferred.

Desirable candidates will have strong people skills, have the ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently, be flexible, and be able to communicate effectively with both children & adults. Strong candidates will also have the desire to continue learning and practicing developmentally appropriate techniques for working with children of all abilities.

We are looking for individuals who can begin working May 13th for the summer, but also for individuals who can work in the Fall 2024 semester.

Work Hours

The child care center is open 7:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Work hours will vary depending on applicant's availability. Work hours will be consistent for the entire summer or school semester. Most needed hours are 11:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday or 11:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday &Thursday & Friday.
