Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or compensating experience
  • High level of flexibility and willingness to accept change
  • Good human relations and communication skills
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Illinois "Class C" driver's license
  • Ability to use standard hand and power tools
  • Basic computer skills
  • General familiarity with all of the following areas and advanced knowledge in at least two of the following areas:
    1. HVAC equipment - boilers, geothermal, chillers, towers, etc.
    2. Electrical power and lighting
    3. Carpentry
    4. Plumbing systems
    5. Fire alarm installation, troubleshooting, programming, and service
    6. Burglar alarm installation, troubleshooting, programming, and service
    7. Building EMS systems - digital and pneumatic
    8. Operation of grounds service equipment
    9. Telephone systems, fiber cabling, and Internet drops
    10. Door access controls programming and service
    11. Hardware systems
    12. Flooring (carpet, vinyl, VCT, etc.), wall, and ceiling tile
    13. Building automation systems
    14. Welding and fabrication
    15. Food service refrigeration/cooler systems
    16. Locksmithing, lock pinning, key schedule creation, panic bars, door operators, closers, and hardware
  • Ability to climb a ladder and work overhead
  • Ability to build scaffolding and use lift equipment properly
  • Ability to read blueprints and manuals
  • Ability to lift objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds in weight
  • Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours calls via landline or mobile phone and work overtime during high needs times of the year (snow removal, emergency storm damage clean-up, etc.) as directed
Compensation
  • The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health, vision, and term life insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.

Important Notes
  • This is a year-round position.
  • The hours worked may fluctuate during the initial training period before transitioning to a set schedule. This will be discussed further during the interview process.
