Description

Provider will have responsibilities in administration, teaching, research and medical service as they pertain to the general mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the specific needs of the Department of Neurology. Responsibilities shall include direct patient care, teaching and work rounds, lectures, protocol development and staff education.

Examples of Duties

  1. Teaching 10%
    1. Presentation of lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for residents and students (Years II, III and IV).
    2. Participate in Neurology grand rounds (attend weekly, present periodically).
    3. Participate in the basic science and other didactic curricula for neurology residents.
    4. Conduct clinical (bedside and otherwise) teaching of neurology and other house staff and medical students in the outpatient clinic and during rounds on inpatient service at assigned hospital(s).
  2. Service (Patient Care) 80%
    1. Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the University practice plan (SIU Healthcare).
    2. Conduct outpatient clinics in subspecialty clinic, general neurologic disorders clinic, and supervision of resident clinic except when staffing the inpatient service.
      1. Provide inpatient care through consultations and, when appropriate, principal care as part of weekly rotations on the neurology inpatient service at assigned hospital(s).
      2. Participate in Botox clinic.
      3. Work with other faculty physicians to maintain a functional DBS neurosurgery program and provide back up as needed.
      4. Provide outreach outpatient clinics as needed.
      5. Administration 5%
        1. Serve on university, departmental and hospital committees as needed.
        2. Participate in scheduled meetings as a member of the hospital staff at St. John's Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital and other partners as needed.
      6. Research 5%
    3. (Time devoted to research will be raised or lowered depending on a faculty member's productivity and career goals. Time in research can/will be moved to teaching or clinical service, accordingly.)
      1. Participate in clinical trials of new therapies for neurologic disease.
      2. Participate in multi-center clinical trials of new therapies for movement disorders.
      3. Publish research in peer reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.
      4. Present at regional, national and international scientific meeting.

Qualifications

  1. Licensed as a physician in Illinois
  2. Board certified/eligible in Neurology
  3. At least 1 year of post-doctoral training in Movement Disorders
