Job Description

The Limited Radiologic Technologist - Non-Registered is responsible for performing radiographic produce quality radiographs within scope of accreditation by the application of ionizing radiation to produce radiographic images under a variety of conditions and assisting physicians as required in the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

Job Relationships

  • Reports to the Diagnostic Imaging Operations Manager

Principal Responsibilities

  • Obtain a complete history on patients including obtaining previous related exams that will help evaluate the current exam.
  • Produce quality radiographs.
  • Select proper technical factors for each individual patient, according to established protocols.
  • Provide proper shielding in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards.
  • Operate equipment as directed.
  • Be knowledgeable with all procedures and protocols within the Radiology Department within designated accreditation.
  • Assist with the selection of technical factors using ALARA principles.
  • Possess knowledge of image acquisition and manipulation, including correcting data regarding patient information and image detail in PACS.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Assemble images for interpretation by radiologists.
  • Assist patients in transport within Radiology and throughout the Springfield Clinic campus.
  • Will be responsible when using Springfield Clinic computers and telephones as needed for patient care.
  • Knowledge of computer systems: RIS (to include, but not limited to scheduling/rescheduling/replacing exams, completing exams, patient history, enter comments, enter "stop" payments and print features), EHR, PACS, Employee Benefit system, Radiology home page.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment and limited procedures.
  • Knowledge of sterile procedure and of sterilization procedure for sterile supplies.
  • Knowledge of general scheduler duties.
  • Knowledge of Prompt Care workflow.
  • Knowledge of workflow to obtain reports on images.
  • Put away incoming supplies and inform Supervisor of supplies needed.
  • Check for outdates on a regular basis.
  • Report any equipment failures to Supervisor and have general knowledge to troubleshoot equipment for problems and call for service if necessary.
  • Submit proper forms to request for paid time off and enter time off in payroll tracking system.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Must have passed The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Examination for the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography within one year.

Licenses/Certificates

  • Must maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography.
  • May have temporary accreditation in Radiography with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Division of Nuclear Safety.
  • CPR per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

  • Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.
  • Must have the ability to perform occasional heavy lifting, i.e., transferring patients to x-ray tables.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting and twisting.
  • Must be able with help to lift patient from cart to table.
  • Must be able to work with arms above head.
  • Must be able to wear lead apron for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to assist patient to and from the table.

Working Environment

  • Will be exposed to fumes from cleaning agents or x-ray film processor chemicals, in limited areas.
  • Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
