Description

Responsible for teaching classes within the John Deere Tech Program.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to the teaching/learning process and use a variety of teaching methods and strategies that reflect the varied learning styles and needs of students.
  2. Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President and follow course outlines approved by the Lake Land College Curriculum Committee.
  3. Update courses and develop the curriculum to meet ever-changing training and employment needs.
  4. Place value on student success recruitment and retention.
  5. Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Director of Admission Services.
  6. Attend the division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty/administration meetings called by the administration.
  7. Participate in faculty and professional development activities.
  8. Be on campus in classrooms laboratories library or office for not less than thirty hours a week and maintain a schedule of at least three hours on campus or approved location each school day.
  9. Maintain at least five office hours per week as posted on the office door and as filed in administrative offices.
  10. Maintain current textbooks and submit textbook recommendations to the Division Chairman.
  11. Prepare annual budget requests of equipment supplies furniture and renovation needs to the Division Chairman.
  12. Cooperate in the promotion of extra curricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
  13. Serve on such committees for the betterment of the College as may be established by the administration and faculty.
  14. Consider the general and special needs of the student.Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems when necessary and seek additional help from other college services.
  15. Advise students assigned by Lake Land College Student Services.
  16. Notify the Division Chairman in advance of absences allowing for appropriate class substitution.
  17. Work collaboratively with division and campus faculty.
  18. Observe support and enforce the regulations policies and programs of the College.
  19. Serve as co-coordinator of the John Deere Tech curriculum and complete the Program's assessment results upon request of the Academic Vice President
  20. Collect and assess course and program data and report results in WEAVE each semester.
  21. Attend at least one John Deere training class per year presented at a John Deere Training Center.
  22. Serve as co-coordinator of the John Deere Tech curriculum and complete the program's assessment results upon requires of the Academic Vice President.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Associate Degree required,Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 2000 hours work experience in Ag Mechanics field.

Knowledge:
Documented current John Deere certifications in Service Advisor, Electrical Systems and Hydraulic Systems. Knowledge of GPS systems, precision technology components, hydraulics, electrical components, large displacement diesel engines, turf equipment and small engines, hay equipment, fuel systems, power trains, and harvesting, tillage, and planting equipment, John Deere Service Advisor software.

Sick Hours

Full-time faculty employees earn 88 hours of sick time per academic year. If a faculty employee works during the summer, an additional 16 hours will be given.  Hours are received at the beginning of each academic year.  Sick time can be taken in hourly increments.

Personal Hours

Full-time faculty earn 24 hours of personal time at the beginning of each academic year.  For employees who begin in the middle of an academic year, hours will be prorated.  Personal time can be used in half-day increments (Forty-hour work week employees may use in hourly increments). Any unused personal time will be transferred to sick leave at the end of the academic year (August 31).

Vacation
12-Month Contractual Faculty receive 20 days of vacation per academic year.

Holidays

Lake Land College provides for ten paid holidays: January 1st, Friday Before Easter, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Election Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and December 25th.

Tuition Waiver

Lake Land College offers tuition waivers for credit courses to current full-time employees, employee’s spouse or civil union partner, and their unmarried dependents under age 23. Any fees associated with the classes are the responsibility of the employee.

Tuition Reimbursement

Full-time employees are entitled to a tuition reimbursement of $200 per credit hour with a maximum of $1200 a fiscal year to advance their education with a baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree.  Reimbursement is available for courses in which a grade of C or better is received with verification through official transcripts.

Retirement

Lake Land College employees are members of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS).

(403)b/457(b) Retirement Savings Plans

Lake Land College offers a voluntary 403(b) plan and a 457(b) plan.  Employees have the option of choosing from a variety of investment funds and can contribute on a pre-tax or post-tax basis.  Employees can elect to enroll in a 403(b) and 457(b) plan at any time.  The College offers an Employer Match of up to 3% of your gross salary based on certain criteria.   Please refer to Board Policies 05.38 and 05.22 for criteria and guidelines.

Life and AD&D Insurance

Lake Land College provides full-time faculty employees with $40,000 in life and AD&D insurance. Employees may also elect to purchase additional supplemental insurance for themselves, as well as spouse or civil union partner, and their dependent children.  Spouses and dependents cannot exceed the amount of the employee’s optional benefit.


Voluntary Benefits

Lake Land College offers Voluntary Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness, and Accident Insurance at group rates paid by employees. 

Flexible Spending Account

Full-time employees can elect through payroll deduction to establish a flexible spending account for qualified medical or dependent care expenses incurred during the plan year.  These elections are made on a pre-tax basis to save the employee federal and state income taxes.  Employees enrolled on a medical flexible spending account can carry over up to $500 from one plan year to the next.

Medical Insurance

Lake Land College offers two health plan options -a traditional PPO health plan and one High Deductible health plan with a compatible Health Savings Account.  Employees can elect coverage for their dependents defined as a spouse, civil union partner, or child under the age of 26.  Dependent verification is required.  Spouses who are able to obtain insurance through his or her full-time employment are not eligible for the College Insurance.

Health Savings Accounts

A HSA is a tax-favored savings account which allows funds to be accumulated tax-free to pay for current and future qualified healthcare expenses. A HSA account is only available if a HDHP, or Plan B is chosen. Lake Land contributes an amount equal to the difference in premiums between Plan A and Plan B. For 2024, this amount is $299.18/month for single coverage, $316.50/month for employee+1 coverage, and $337.12/month for family coverage.
