Description

The IDOT QMTP (Illinois Department of Transportation Quality Management Training Program) Program Specialist will instruct or support the instruction of IDOT Recertification classes offered by the college, delivering high-quality training content through the college LMS. Responsibilities include developing of curriculum, courses and creating instructional materials for the Recertification Program.  This position requires strong organizational, communication, and instructional skills, as well as a thorough understanding of IDOT QMTP regulations and procedures.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

  1. In cooperation with the Director of IDOT QMTP, prepare or revise guides and instructional material for recertification training offered in their program and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate Administrator for review. 
  2. Provide IDOT QMTP short-term training sessions as assigned by the IDOT QMTP Program Specialist/Recertification Program Coordinator following training outlines approved by the College. 
  3. Review and evaluate documentation submitted by students for recertification, including test reports, quality control procedures, and other required documentation.
  4. Track attendance and completions as prescribed by IDOT.
  5. Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time. 
  6. Participate in meetings, workshops, and other professional development activities as needed to enhance knowledge and skills related to IDOT QMTP regulations and procedures such as IDOT, Illinois Asphalt Paving Association and American Concrete Institute.
  7. Prepare for the annual budget requests for instructional equipment and materials including maps, books, audio-visual aids, and other supplies and submit these requests to the IDOT QMTP Program Specialist/Recertification Program Coordinator for recommendation.
  8. Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  9. Engage in activities aimed at promoting the IDOT QMTP Recertification Program, Technology Division, and Lake Land College to potential and current students.
  10. Develop, assess, and maintain data for IDOT QMTP Recertification Program assessment according to the institutional assessment schedule.
  11. Other related duties as assigned
 

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education:     Minimum of Associate in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology or quality management and related field.
Experience:   3-5 years recent industry experience in Civil Engineering Technology or quality management including materials and testing required.  Teaching experience is desired.
Knowledge:   Materials testing. Knowledge of current IDOT procedures and specifications. 
Skills:             Strong technical skills – appropriate to the work environment.   Able to work independently without direct daily supervision.  Willing to independently solve problems and develop solutions.  Able to relate well to others and maintain constructive work relationships. Good command of the English language, the ability to use multi-media technology.
Personal:       Versatility, positive attitude, enthusiasm.
Physical:        Must be able to lift and transport 50 lb. to include rough terrain.
Other:             Must be willing to travel to and teach classes throughout the state in the IDOT Quality Management Training Recertification Program. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work.

Leave Time Hours

Eligible part-time employees earn leave time at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.

Tuition Waiver
Lake Land College offers tuition waivers for credit courses of 1 credit hour tuition waiver for every semester completed for a total of up to 3 credit hours per Fiscal Year. 

Retirement
Lake Land College employees are members of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS). 8% of your gross earnings will be placed into your SURS account.  You will have three plan options to select from-Traditional, Portable, and Retirement Savings Plan.  Information will be mailed to your home from SURS.  Please be advised that if you do not make an election within 6 months-you will automatically be enrolled in the Traditional Plan, which is the default plan.  Elections are irrevocable.
